Introduction to the Teen and Young Adult Pregnancy Support Program
We Are Here with You
From our hearts to yours, we introduce the Teen and Young Adult Pregnancy Support program. A program nurtured to educate and promote young women aged 14 to 26 experiencing pregnancy into a life of improved wellness and abundant opportunities. During this transitional time in your life, our mentors and qualified counselors will directly support your journey in becoming young women empowered by their choices and contributions to the community. Regardless of how you have arrived at us, we embrace you with open arms. We are dedicated to creating a safe space that allows for guidance and detailed planning in bridging your present to your future. To ensure this, we ask all applying young women questions regarding their mental and physical well-being before placement in the program.
Our Three-Phase Program
Why We are an Advocate for You
- According to the American Pregnancy Association, teenage mothers tend to experience greater risk during pregnancy as they are still within developing ages (1).
- Due to this difficulty of adjusting from adolescence to parenthood, many young girls face a lack of resources and education (2).
- The CDC states, 50% of teen mothers below age 22 receive a high school diploma, while almost 90% of adolescents who have not given birth graduate from high school (3).
- In addition, the Virginia Common Wealth University (4) states that teen mothers are twice as likely to experience significant levels of stress that can increase the risk for mental health disorders.
Phase 1: Pearls with Hope
This phase is catered to young women ages 14-26 who are currently pregnant and interested in exploring Pregnancy Support program plans and various birth and family planning. Upon entering the program, we understand that you may be facing feelings of overwhelm, uncertainty, and seeking trusted support. We are focused on getting to know who each young woman is and how we can facilitate a haven during this transformative time in their lives. Our staff will match you with a counselor or mentor who will guide you through resources regarding education, health, housing, and employment. Here our goal is to make sure every entering teen and young woman is growing to be confident in their foundation system.
Phase 2: Pearls with a Future
At the second stage, the young women will be building their lives post-pregnancy, depending on their unique needs and set goals. Here, our goal is to assist you in navigating through decisions that will lay a landscape for your future and your children’s future. New mothers and those who have defined their choice in alternatives will be connected to resources to ensure their mental, physical and emotional health. Based on need and interest, young pearls with a future can expect various training courses such as CPR certification, first aid, nutrition, lactation consulting and, further skill and career development.
Phase 3: Pearls of Wisdom
We intend for the young women reaching this stage to look back in amazement at their accomplishments and all they have to offer their families and communities. With newfound
wisdom upon completing the mentoree program, we encourage all young women to establish supporting roles as advocates for health, education, and development to our incoming young women. Here, we welcome you to stay within this part of the program for as long as you desire!
